Today after replacing the slave cylinder I also installedd the miata's first performance part!

A stainless extended clutch line from 949 Racing! It eliminates two connections prevented leaks apparently and gets rid of the coiled crap that makes it hard to bleed and the stupid braket that mounts on the top trans to engine bolt. Also it is supposed to give more firm clutch because one of the lines it eliminates is rubber. Hopefully I can drive my car now.

I wish I'd known you were going to do that, because in my experience (which is only with NAs and NBs), if you replace a Miata's clutch slave cylinder it won't be three months until you have to replace the clutch master cylinder, and vice-versa. If you'd done them both at the same time you'd probably have saved a decent amount of time, effort and brake fluid.

That's a nice hydraulic line! I also had one of those blow out on me (in traffic! whatta pain in the ass) and getting it unscrewed from that little bracket in the tight space behind the engine was an unbelievable hassle. Despite at least an hour of effort I couldn't turn the nut on top off; I ended up wedging a screwdriver against the nut and rotating the old hose from underneath.

So you had one of the hoses like I just installed blow out? That sucks! I was hoping these things were invincible.

I was just trying to get the car back on the road and didnt have the money for the master cylinder though now that you have mentioned it it does seem like I remember reading that many people have both cylinders blow out near the same time.

I would have just replaced the slave without the fancy new hose but I had to cut the hardlines to get them off because they wouldn't come off the slave cylinder.

I think the slave has needed to be replaced since I bought the car because it shifted fine sometimes but then would be hard and randomly wouldnt shift into gear but it was so far between this and the fluid was never low I didnt know what to think. But it is much better now except having to relearn the proper clutch engagement point its like learning to drive a manual all over again!

No, it was the original black rubber hose, in a '99 NB that had about 200,000 miles on it. That red one of yours looks more durable, and it's definitely newer, so I think you're good for quite a while. Start looking around for a low price on a replacement clutch master cylinder, however. On the plus side, replacing the master cylinder is even easier than replacing the slave cylinder.

The master cylinder looks rather new but I have seen them for pretty cheap so it is something I will keep an eye on.
